Hostel Life: A Second Home

Written by - Rasool Fatima

Living away from parents and family is quite a tough job. But for higher studies everyone has to move out from their home town and live in an unknown city with unknown people. Living in hostel gives you unforgettable memories, talking late night endlessly and much more fun. Along with fun there are many problems which comes in the hostel life.

Not eating food properly: The main problem comes with food as no one likes the taste of the hostel food much, so you start avoiding eating food and just eat junk foods and other stuff from outside. Not eating nutritious food can lead to many health problems such as diarrhea, stomach pain and getting tired easily. So, it is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This can be done by eating fruits, by adding dahi and salad to the meals, and can cook yourself on the weekends, drinking sufficient water and to make a change you can eat outside once in a week but don’t get addicted to it and there also try to eat proper meal.

Problem in adjusting with others: Living with 3-4 people in one room is not easy. Some likes to study in the night, someone is talking with the mom and then someone is playing the songs it can make you feel irritated and you may find difficulty in sleeping due to disturbance. So, it is very important to make a good connection with your roommates so that all can understand each other’s problem and can co-operate. Avoid fights and argument as it will create hatred for each other and if something happens like this then solve it as soon as possible.

Daily routine: In hostel you don’t sleep early and then you are not able to get up early in the morning. Using phones and other gadgets till late night can affect your eyes. Better to maintain a proper schedule with some exercise or yoga and healthy meal to stay fit.

Other work: You have to do your other work by yourself such as washing clothes and doing dusting. But don’t waste too much time in doing this work be quick and try to complete in short period of time.

Stay focused on your goal: With all these things happening around, you should not forget for what purpose you have come here. Stay focused on your studies and other activities that helps build your personality and stay active in other activities like sports and taking part in competitions. Don’t get so much involved in the fun and craziness that you forget the main motive for what you have come here. Do all things but in a limited manner your priority should be your studies always.
