Exam Marks : Real Parameter for a Perfect Future?

 Author: Ishwarya J

"Freedom" for students for sure has terms and conditions - the top most being their "Marks".
Be it the most irrelevant topic to academics, but you will still find the amazing skills of parents in trying to make space to talk about your "Marks".

It's definitely right from their perspective because of the conventional thought that marks play a lead role for a perfect future and this strong misconception is unknowingly pushing the students into a world of competition where they are prevented from experiencing the "Real Future".

This seems casual but a deeper insight to this has lot more to deal with because  students are accustomed to think in the terms of marks only and are pressurized that marks are to be the only objectives that they should be having and rest should be thought of only after they have  scored more than the “respectable marks”.
It isn't the parents or the students who have to be blamed but, the educational system.
I totally agree, that sounds quite common but I don’t see any change in any of the courses even after realizing this.
Where in India are we relying on practical knowledge?
We allot lab sessions in various courses just for the sake of fake picturisation of “practicality”. We are not bothered about having practical sessions until high school but the struggle that your parents and teachers take for you to secure highly well off marks starts from your kindergarten itself.
That's so ridiculous to even think of!

I don’t say that marks are not of any importance but they definitely aren't future deciding factors!
It's so absurd that until intermediate you’re asked to focus on ranks, marks etc. and not to think of any other co-curricular or extracurricular activities and then when you’re into some under graduation course and looking for a job, you’re judged based on your extra activities apart from your academics.

Now, how fair is this change in the game?
Not all students could get accustomed to this kind of transitioning situations.

In addition to this;
Comparing their marks with their classmates, trying to embarrass them in front of their friends, punishing them for not doing their work etc. Such situations might make them feel low about themselves and may lead to depression or suicidal thoughts. After all its parents who have to understand the passion of their children and realize that marks are only a part of their academical life but not truly their future.

For example,
In any official interview the interviewers would be testing you on the level of smartness and It’s enough if you just have a qualifying mark.

All these bring us to a conclusion that The CHANGE might take a longer time but, if only parents could realize all these real facts then there wouldn't be anything holding back the students from achieving what they want!

The awakening has to start from parents!
